What they said to me is that the Xbox One is a pretty closed platform, and that we just couldnt make it work with the dedicated servers and the experience that we have on the PC. I am sorry, but that is just a BS statement meant to justify laziness.
We have heard that argument multiple times with different developers over the years and while it may have been true around 2013, it is not even close to being an acceptable excuse in 2016 with all the changes the Xbox development team have implemented in the past couple of years. In my opinion it would have been better if you just said that due to time constrains and lack of development experience you just couldn't integrate it in the game at this point. Blaming others for your own shortcomings is just low. And that we just couldnt make it work with the dedicated servers and the experience that we have on the PC.
That is your quote. It makes it sound as if you were unexperienced. Are you talking about the Xbox One version being unable to match the PC version? If yes, the reasons are only two. Either inexperience, or laziness. Today we have a plethora of games that offer the same experience to users across different platforms. Take for example Psyonix, the guys behind Rocket League.
Regardless of the platform you play the game (PC, PS4, Xbox One), you will encounter exactly the same game across the board with no differences between each other. This is what I have been told.
And I believe you. Do not worry about that.
What I am arguing is that your team seems to be completely misinformed with regards to the way Xbox works. How your team became so severely misinformed is up for debate. Lets take for example Slightly Mad Studios, the developers of Project CARS. At first they claimed that the issue for no including multiplayer lobbies was solely Microsoft's fault for having a restrictive platform which did not allow for private lobbies. Meanwhile, Battlefield 4 had lobbies since the launch of the console.
Eventually Project CARS added private lobbies. Why am I mentioning this? Because blaming the platform for the lack of multiplayer is simply false. Project CARS has not been the only game that has given the excuse your team gave you of Xbox One being a pretty closed platform. You should really have a conversation with whoever said that, because they are completely wrong and outright lied to you. You do not want someone like that working for you. It is better if someone accepts that they do not possess the required skills to accomplish something than that someone making up a lie as to why he is unable to do something.
